VULCAN — Sheffield Archive Heavy Cotton T-Shirt
VULCAN — Sheffield Archive #6
A tribute to the bronze figure watching over Sheffield from the Town Hall tower. This black heavy cotton T-shirt carries the Sheffield Archive crest on the front left chest and a large distressed VULCAN composition across the back, pairing the city’s metalworking guardian with the unmistakably Sheffield message: LIVE LONG AND BE REIGHT.
The Town Hall opened in 1897, and Vulcan’s raised hammer remains one of the city centre’s most distinctive silhouettes—a symbol of Sheffield’s fire, metal and workmanship.
Part of the Council Estate Tat Sheffield Archive: preserving the city’s landmarks, stories and shared memories in a bold, wearable form.

The Sheffield story behind the design
The Roman god of fire and metalworking also appears on Sheffield’s coat of arms, first granted in 1875. That connection gives Vulcan a particular meaning in the Steel City. Our Town Hall-inspired design celebrates the link between Sheffield’s civic landmarks, craftsmanship and local humour.
